It has been some time since I have felt moved and inspired to write a blog post. Yesterday, I watched the documentary "Viktor & Rolf: Because We're Worth It!". In fact, I watched it a few times! Dutch designers and artists have a long, rich history for inspirational vision. Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren have been working closely together since graduating from Arnhem Academy of Art and Design. They moved to Paris in 1993 and after four collections in experimental art spaces, had their first Haute Collection in S/S '98. They returned to R.T.W. the following year and have continued to turn out amazing collections. As well as womenswear, they design(ed); menswear, luggage, eyeglasses, false eyelasses for Shu Uemura, champagne bottles and in 2005, Flowerbomb, their iconic perfume. Their capsule collection for H & M in 2005, helped spread appeal for their product. They have won many awards and accolades. They have exhibited their collections in the Louvre! Like Karl Lagerfeld, their shows involve much more than a collection itself. The concept, staging, music, etc... every detail, right down to model casting, is carefully and methodically thought out. I sold earlier collections and a good friend is their American wholesale rep.. After watching this documentary, I realize how truly influential they have become and how we have yet to see their best work!
